How Cookies work? 2

KobraHunter | Sunday, January 09, 2011 | , , , , , , , , ,

Cookies are one of the most popular terms in the internet world. Do you know what a cookie is and what its purpose is? Many people say that cookies reveal our privacy to website owners and they are not safe. In this article I am trying to reveals some facts about cookies and its action on our system.

Cookies got much attention in internet security area in and around 2000. At that time the most popular definition of cookies was like this. Cookies are programs inserted by website on your hard disk when you visit the site. They collect all information related to your activities and it is sent to the website owners. This definition is a wrong and misleading one.

Actually cookies are small piece of text, not programs. Can a simple text collect all the information related to you? Can this simple text communicate automatically with its website owner? The fact is that it cannot collect any information from you. Cookies consist of some Name Value pairs. They are set by the website.

When you visit a site, server set a user id for you and it is inserted in your hard disk. When you visit again this site, the server can recognize you as a previous visitor. If you deleted the cookie, then you will get a new user id and assigned as a new user. Usually user id is collected. But many site are inserting other values like session time and session id too.

How data moves using Cookie?

When you enter a URL, browser will send a request to the corresponding server to retrieve data. For example, when you enter WWW.GOOGLE.COM, the browser will check for cookies related to Google. If it is found, the data in the cookie is send along with request.

There are also options in our browser to remove cookies. Cookies actually provide easy user interface with the website.

GIF is the short form of graphics interchange format. It can be used in small animations also. They may be a sequence of images or frames which gives the effect of animation.

How to remove programs in safe mode in windows? 0

KobraHunter | Friday, January 07, 2011 | , , , , , ,

Safe mode is a operational state in which some very important drivers and programs only are operated. Sometimes we have to use this to solve some problems in our operating system. When you try to uninstall a program you will get an error message.

This is because, Windows installer process is not operated in the safe mode. To uninstall a program in safe mode, we have to edit the registry. Type REGEDIT in the RUN command from start menu. Go to the key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\safeboot\minimal. Then right click on the key and select key from New. Then give MSIService as the name. Then double click on it and set the value as Service.

Using this newly created MSIService key you can uninstall programs in safe mode. You can start installer services from the window which is displayed when Services .msc is entered into the Run command.

It is a version of SD card used in mobile phones. It has a dimension of 15x11x1 mm. By using adapters it can be used in other memory card slots.

8 Upcoming Memory Techniques 0

KobraHunter | Wednesday, January 05, 2011 | , ,

1. Holo graphic data storage

This technology gives high data storing capacity than magnetic and optical storage. These method stores data in same place with different angles of light. These can be read using same LASER with same angles of light. It has a data access time of about 200 milli seconds.

2. 3D optical data storage

This is a data storage technology in which we can read and write data in 3D resolution. Eventhough LASER is used, disc layers are more than common discs.

3. TRAM

Thyristor RAM combines the high speed and volume of SRAM and DRAM. This utilises the electrical property called negative differential resistance. This thin capacitively coupled Thyristor can be used to manufacture memories of high density.

4. ZRAM

It is the short form of zero capacitor RAM. It is DRAM memory developed by Innovative silicon. Floating body effect of silicon on insulator is the base for this. This has the speed of 6 transistor SDRAM used in cache memories. AMD will use this technology in their future microprocessors.

5. TTRAM

This is a memory technique similar to DRAM which is based on the concept of one transistor and one capacitor. It is the short form of twin transistor RAM. Here silicon on insulator is used instead of capacitor. Of the two transistors one acts as access transistor and other acts as storage transistor.

6. FeRAM

It is also known as Ferro electric RAM. This method user Ferro electric layer instead of dielectric layer. It is a non volatile DRAM. It has high speed and high write/erase cycles.

7. PMC

It is also called programable metallisation cell and is developed by combined effort of Arizona state university and Axon technologies. Long lifetime, memory density and low power consumption are the specialities of this technology.

8. SONOS

It is a non volatile memory similar to flash memory. It is the short form of silicon oxide nitride  oxide silicon. In this technology silican nitried is used instead of polysilicon for storing charge.

6 common storage technologies 0

KobraHunter | Wednesday, January 05, 2011 | , , , , , ,

1. Semiconductor memory

These memories make use of IC's made up of semiconductor materials. It contains millions of transistors and capacitors. There are volatile and non volatile memories. ROM, magneto resistive RAM, flash memory etc are non volatile memories. SRAM and DRAM are the common volatile memories.

2. Magnetic storage

This is the method of storing data using various magnetisation patterns on magnetic materials. It is non volatile. Data are read and write using read god write head. Floppy disc and hard disc are disc shaped magnetic storage devices. Magnetic storage are also utilised in MICR of bank cheques and magnetic stripes in credit cards. Magneto resistive RAM is an advanced technique of magnetic storage. In this technique data are stored using tunnel magneto resistance.

3. Optical storage

These are the most used storage technologies today. LASER is used to read and write data. Compact disc, DVD, Blue ray disc etc are the examples of optical storage.

4. Magneto optical.

In this method data are stored in magneto optical discs. They can be formated to special file system.  Operating system misunderstand these optical devices as hard disc.

5. Optical tape

Data are stored in long plastic tapes. They combines the technologies of both cinema film and optical disc. While a magnetic tape can store 10-50 GB, an optical tape can store upto 1TB.

6. Phase change memory

The change in phase between crystaline and amorphous states by the action of heat is used in these types of memories. PCM, PRAM and CRAM are this type of memories.

Wireless Mobile Charging 0

KobraHunter | Wednesday, January 05, 2011 | , , , ,

Without much delay, mobile users can charge their devices wirelessly. It is a new technology developed by a Japanese company. By using this device you can charge your mobile, laptop, digital camera etc without connecting to the supply directly. This was presented in a communication Engineer's conference by Institute of Electronics information.

Developers of this technology says that it is possible to charge many devices at same time. So we can charge our laptop, mobile phone and camera at same time from a single source. It make use of the magnetic field exist between the charger and electronic device. It is possible to charge the device which is several meters away from the charging point. By using this technology it is also possible to establish public charging spots.

Developers believes that the full version of this product can be released by 2012.
