We all know what happens in a conventional Bomb. When a conventional bomb is dropped from an aircraft, it has a free flight and hit the destination. But the accuracy will not be high. A bomb dropped from an aircraft depends on speed and direction of wind, direction of aircraft etc. Is it possible for a bomb to control its path, navigate and reach its destination with 100 % accuracy?
The answer is Yes and that bomb is named as Glide Bomb. Glide bomb or Stand Off bomb is provided with flight control surfaces which helps in its journey towards destination. It is also supported by navigation system, which helps in tracking the destination. It can be released from much distance from target while a conventional bomb can be released right above the destination. This type of bomb with radio guidance was used in World war II .
A 1000-kg “glide bomb”, designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO),India, was successfully tested in december 2014.
